Sodium sulfite is an inorganic compound. At room temperature, it is a white granular powder. It can be used as a reducing bleaching agent, having a bleaching effect on food and a strong inhibitory effect on the oxidase in plant-based foods. Anhydrous sodium sulfite can be used as a stabilizer for artificial fibers, a fabric bleaching agent, a photographic developer, a bleaching agent for dyeing and bleaching, a reducing agent for fragrances and dyes, and a lignin remover for papermaking. In the textile industry, it can be used as a deoxidizer and bleaching agent, and is used for the boiling process of various cotton fabrics.
