Aluminum hydroxide (Aluminum hydroxide), chemical formula Al(OH)3, white solid, insoluble in water, soluble in acid or alkali, is a typical amphoteric hydroxide. After heating and dehydration in the air, it can be transformed into aluminum oxide, which is of great significance to the production of aluminum oxide. Aluminum hydroxide can react with acid to produce salt and water and with strong alkali to produce chemicalbook salt and water, so it is an amphoteric hydroxide. Because it has a certain acidity, it can also be called aluminic acid (H3AlO3). But in fact, when it reacts with alkali, it produces tetrahydroxyaluminate ([Al(OH)4]-). Therefore, it is usually regarded as monohydrated aluminic acid (HAlO2·H2O), and is divided into industrial grade and pharmaceutical grade according to its use. Aluminum hydroxide is a widely used chemical product. Industrial-grade aluminum hydroxide is mainly used as filler for plastics and polymers, flame retardant and binder for carpets, filler for epoxy resins, color filler and coating for papermaking, production of aluminum sulfate, alum, aluminum fluoride, synthetic molecular sieves, filler for toothpaste, glass ingredients, gel liquid and Chemicalbook dry gel. Medical-grade aluminum hydroxide is mainly used as an antacid, which has the function of neutralizing gastric acid and protecting the ulcer surface, and can relieve symptoms such as acid reflux caused by excessive gastric acid. It is suitable for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. When used in combination with calcium and vitamin D, it can treat neonatal hypocalcemia (tetany).
