Introduction:
Polyiso (PIB) is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic viscous or semi-solid substance with good properties of heat resistance, oxygen resistance, ozone resistance, weather resistance, UV resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other chemicals. It is used in lubricating oils. Chemicalbook fields such as additives, polymer material post-processing, medicine and cosmetics, and food additives all have very important uses. Among them, low molecular weight PIB can be used to produce ashless dispersants, adhesives, sealants, medicines and cosmetics Moisturizers, etc.; PIB with medium relative molecular weight is mainly used as chewing gum base and insulating glass sealing materials as well as agricultural pesticides.
Application:
Polyisobutene (hydrogenated) is an emollient.
Polyiso, sometimes called butyl rubber, and other times PIB, is a vinyl polymer. It's very similar to polyethylene and polypropylene in structure, except that every other carbon is substituted with two methyl groups. It is made from the monomer iso, by cationic vinyl polymerization.
Polyiso is a synthetic rubber, or elastomer. It's special because it's the only rubber that's gas impermeable. That is, it's the only rubber that can hold air for long periods of time. You may have noticed that balloons will go flat after a few days. This is because they are made of polyisoprene, which is not gas impermeable. Because polyiso will hold air, it is used to make things like the inner tubes, liner layers of tires, and the inner liners of basketballs.
