Aluminium fluoride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula AlF3 prepared by the reaction of aluminium hydroxide or aluminium metal with hy-drogen fluoride, or by the action of aluminium trichloride with hydro-fluoric acid and ammo-nia. Colourless or white crystals. Insoluble in water and insoluble in acids and bases. Stable in nature, hydrolysable under heating. Used as an electrolyte conditioner and catalyst in the electrolysis of aluminium.
